Montsalvat  (30 minutes from our motel - Melway map 22 ref. A8)

Montsalvat was created by Justus Jorgensen in 1935 as an artists' commune and resembles a provincial French village.  

Today it is a workplace and studio for artists and a venue for exhibitions, concerts and festivals. 

Entry to the Barn Gallery is free.  A moderate admission charge admits you to the beautiful grounds and buildings.  Montsalvat is open 7 days.

Diamond Valley Miniature Railway

(30 minutes from our motel)

Diamond Valley miniature railway is located in the Lower Eltham Park (Melway map 21 ref. H 10).  This is a great activity for the whole family.  Lower Eltham park has plenty of parking, adventure playground, coin operated barbeques, and plenty of space for picnics.

Community Farm (30 minutes from our motel - Melway map 22 ref. A1)

Edendale Farm Community Environment Centre was established by the Nillumbik Shire Council as a Centre providing a broad range of environmental expertise and offering educational programs in environmental sustainability to the local community.

Small admission price for unguided walks around the farm - see goats, pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, cows, guinea pigs and much more

Wineries of Nillumbik (approx 25 minutes from our motel)

Listed as one of Victoria's best kept secrets.  Nillumbik's wineries are viticulturally  part of the Yarra Valley, however, they have their own distinct identity due to different soils, the slope of the land, the altitude, prevailing winds, rainfall and temperature.

Located on the northern fringe of the Yarra Valley and part of the Great Dividing Range.  Kinglake National Park is renowned for short or long walks through its ferny gullies and waterfalls.

Located on the Yarra River - Melway map 23 reference B10.  Warrandyte State park is renowned for its gold mining tunnel and water activities (canoeing and swimming).
